We're pleased to announce that the Revd Alex Clare-Young will be our
preacher at the 10.30am Sung Mass on Sunday January 9th 2022.
As a member church of the Inclusive
Church network, St John's is committed
to understanding the needs of
marginalised communities. Alex's visit is part of a series, exploring the challenges and blessings of Being Church - being truly Christian Community https://alexclareyoung.co.uk/about/
Alex Clare-Young (they/them/Alex) is an ordained minister in the United Reformed Church. Currently deployed part-time to a radically inclusive, social-media based church called Churspacious, from April 2022 Alex will be the pioneer minister out of Downing Place United Reformed Church, in Cambridge city centre. Passionate about advocating for the inclusion of, and social justice for, all people, Alex is interested in curating safer spaces for those who are marginalised or oppressed in society and put off by church.
Alex researches, writes, teaches, speaks and consults on identity and theology. A keen
advocate for social justice, Alex is co-chair of the Open Table Network, and is a consultant for One Body One Faith and member of Creating Sanctuary. Alex is completing research at the University of Birmingham into the identities, lived experiences and theological understandings of trans people. Their first book, Transgender. Christian. Human, was published in 2019.
