Life events...

Baptism is the main rite of Christian Initiation. It marks our rebirth from Sin into new life with Jesus.
Our 1st Holy Communion is the first time we come to receive Holy Communion at the Mass.
Confirmation is the sacrament administered by a Bishop to those who literally wish to 'confirm' their baptismal promises.
Marriage is also a sacrament which is celebrated, not by a priest, but by the bride and groom.

We find that the best way of keeping our faith is by giving it away: corny but true! So we work hard to encourage you to become part of the Body of Christ, his Church, through the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion. This is because the Sacraments of the Church are guarantees of God's activity in our life.

Baptism and Confirmation are available at St John's. Parents of babies and small children join our Baptism Preparation Group for 3 months before booking their services. We enjoy regular baptism services during the year. Follow this link to find out more and call in on the Parish Surgery to fill out an application form.

First Holy Communion classes are available for children (aged 7 and above) who wish to received Communion at the Eucharist. Our course stretches over 3 terms and we begin annually in September. We meet weekly after school to explore our faith deepening it in engaging and exciting ways!

Confirmation is offered to young people and adults at St John's. Classes for young people (11-16) run alongside our youth group - Encounter - and meet weekly. Adult Confirmation is a shorted course that meets weekly to see how Confirmation extends our commitment to Jesus Christ and his Church.

Marriage is celebrated as 'the outward and visible sign of [the] inward and spiritual grace' God has given to those called to live together. If you are planning to get married you should visit the Parish Office on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm before booking any other venue or service to ensure that the legal formalities necessary to marriage in the UK can be completed.
