The Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at The Vicarage, 40 Racton Road, from 8.00pm till 9.30pm.

Our reading is based on the Church Times Book choices and isn't always obviously religious! Why not come along and enjoy the good company, great cake and an opportunity to talk about a good read.

Last year we read Paul Young's The Shack and really enjoyed Jane Eyre, Wide Sargasso Sea and discovering the West Indian author Caryl Phillips.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 19th October and we're reading Pilgrimage: the journey to remembering by Andrew Jones Buy it online or support our local bookshop by buying through Nomad Books using this ISBN reference number 978-1-84101-834-8

Questions we'll explore...

  • How does the author explain the link between exile and pilgrimage?

  • How far do you agree with him that the Church today is in a situation of exile?

  • Have you made a pilgrimage yourself? If so, how did the experience affect you?

  • Where might we hear the voice of the contemporary prophet? Do you agree with the author that is needs to be a community voice?

  • Why does the author think that pilgrimage has so much to teach us?

  • Of the places that the author talks about in his book, which one of them would you most like to visit? Have you already been to any of them?

  • Which of the peoples stories in the book challenged you or resonated most with you?

  • Why does the author think that the act of remembering is such a central part of faith? Do you agree?
